Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Williamsburg

On my recent, rather super holiday, I stayed with my friend Kristin in Brooklyn, NYC. Much as I love Manhattan, I’ve been lucky enough to see it many times and so it was ace to spend more of my time in Brooklyn on this trip. I’ve visited Kristin here before and loved it, this time I wanted to explore even more. So, with my camera in hand, I decided to explore the neighbourhood of Williamsburg on my way to meet another friend of mine, Simon, who is based in this cool spot. I’m a bit of an observer in life and I rather enjoy walking around looking at people and places; anywhere in America is great for this. I walked around some residential streets, it was a glorious sunny day and the dappled sunlight was hitting the clapperboard houses and the sun faded flags, America and patriotism go hand in hand from my experience. I love the irony of ripped faded stars and stripes proudly hanging next to the tatty doorways and rubbish bins. Walking around Williamsburg, it almost felt like a small mid- American town, cute houses with personalized and kitschly decorated front gardens, quaint dated hair salons and bars, and the odd friendly local eager for a chatter. The fact that this cool, independent area, with a ripe character of its own is a mere moment away from the craziest city on Earth is a wonderful contrast, I really love it.Williamsburg

Springtime is on the way

the prim girlYeeep-yeep! The first few peekaboo signs that spring is coming have made me a happy girl. Happy enough that I managed to get out into a patch of sun to shoot my new dress. Not quite ready to break out the summery colours yet but, twas indeed a treat to get the sun on my skin and see a few flowers showing the top of their heads in the soil!

Edinburgh to say Goodbye

Earthy

Last week we headed up to Edinburgh for a family farewell. My very dear Grandfather passed away at the good ole’ age of 90 and we made sure to give him a great send off. The most polite, smartly dressed and charming man I have ever known, he was a pure honour to have as a Gramps. Always with long stories to tell and a bigger social circle than many people half his age, Bobby Simpson was just brilliant. I shall endeavour to pay tribute with a blog post dedicated just to him. But for now I have to adjust to the fact that he is no longer here.

I absolutely adore Edinburgh, having visited it often all my life to see family, it is a city that has totally captured my heart. Such a damn handsome place and with a great sense of vitality, I just kinda wish it wasn’t so cold and gusty there! James and I stayed in a cute apartment and explored the cobbled streets together, which was just ace seeing as we never get time off together. We ate breakfast both days in Earthy which I love and the food was heavenly. We also popped to the glorious Harvey Nichols for a peek and to stock up on my Chanel make-up.

Edinburgh, a grand city indeed; a perfect place to say farewell to my Gramps.

Festivities at the Folks new house

Christmas is done.

Now we are all new.

December is a crazy time for most, and especially for those of us who own or work in shops….James and I were stupidly busy; with both our little store and with heaps of absolutely lovely social happenings. So it was with much gratitude that we hotfooted it down to my parents in our old Scirocco on Christmas eve for a few days of respite. A very calm and relaxed affair it was too. Just James, I and my Mum and Dad. My sister and her hubby couldn’t make it down until the next day so with just the four of us it was an utterly tranquil time. Good food, good chats and good lounging. It was also the best chance for me to explore my folks’ new home. They had moved there, literally, just weeks before Christmas and so it was a whole new place for me to call home. They had frantically unpacked and made it feel like theirs just in time for our visit. I totally adore their new house, so many beautiful original features and the space and feel of it is awesome, a truly handsome abode. A lovely time indeed.

Kate Moss Up Close

I was out in London last Thursday evening to meet a friend. I heard through the grapevine that a certain Miss Moss was also gonna be out in London. Whoooooop said I.

Kate was launching her new book; ‘Kate: The Kate Moss Book’ and was signing copies at Marc Jacobs’ book store Bookmarc, near Bond Street. Camera in hand I thought I’d pop by to try and get a peek at my favourite girl. When I arrived there was a queue along the side of the shop, around 100 people, not as many as I thought, but then I think maybe her appearance had been kept kinda quiet on the whole. I didn’t choose to queue up and meet her, I preferred the idea of just getting a close-up view as she went in, so I stood with the 5 or 6 Paparazzi guys at the front entrance to the shop. Less than 10 minutes later, there she was, her Mercedes pulled up just feet in front of me and out got Kate! An exhilarated girl was I. I snapped away and surveyed her loveliness with my eyes. The shots I got are mostly pretty rubbish but I adore them. In the blinding light of the flashes Kate was petite, smiley and absolutely bloody dazzling.

The book is a huuuge heavy coffee table book and there are 8 different covers to choose from. The book contains hundreds of photographs, many of which have never been seen before, as chosen by Kate herself to showcase her career which has made her an Icon of a generation. She has dedicated the book to her husband Jamie.

Queen Kate, good to see you.
