How To Find Artistic Inspiration At Any Time

I really appreciate other people’s artwork. I know how important it is to study the success of others if you want to find your own, and success doesn’t have to mean becoming rich and famous, y’know! It can just be looking at something you’ve made any being super proud. Sometimes it can be hard to find inspiration, especially when your mind is busy with too many other things. But here’s how I find inspiration when I’m struggling….

Get Outside – It’s difficult to be creative if you’re shut in your bedroom or lounging about at home. Sometimes you can find inspiration online, but other times you need to leave the house. Going out can help to refresh your mind and open you up to new ideas. You can go to a museum, gallery or library to find something to inspire you, I do this as often as possible and write heaps of blog posts about exhibitions that inspire me. It’s great sitting in front of a painting, photograph, artifact or sculpture with a notebook or drawing pad and doing whatever comes to mind. But you don’t have to go anywhere in particular. You could just walk around and see what you find that inspires you, it really is ALL around you!

Go Shopping for Some Art – I think it’s important to surround yourself with art if you want to feel inspired more often. It doesn’t have to cost much to buy something to put on your wall or a book or poetry to read. And if you don’t have much money at all, it’s always possible to find things for free. Your can order things online using stores like Cordair Art, or you could go out and find somewhere that sells things you love. Art can be many different things too. It could be a handmade item you pick up at a market stall. The important thing is that someone has put their creativity into it, and it inspires you to do the same.

Use Other Media – You don’t have to stick to the medium you work with when you’re looking for inspiration. If you want to draw or paint, reading a book could help to inspire you. Watching a TV show or movie might get you thinking about something you want to do. Listening to music could help you visualize a new concept or give you some inspirational words, music is a massive inspiration for me. So, don’t limit yourself to only using one medium for inspiration, keep trying new ideas, it makes for so much more fun!

Look at Your Own Work – Sometimes we start things and then put them down and never look at them again. Or we finish a piece but then put it in the back of a drawer, so easily done! Going back to your finished and unfinished pieces is an ace way to be creative. You might pick up something you’ve started again, or it might inspire you to begin a new project…. so many creative adventures to have!

I get it, finding inspiration can be hard, but you really have to consciously look for it, be reday and willing to be inspired and it will come to you, just wait and see!

Pretty, Pretty Pictures

So, we ALL love Instagram right? Surely? I totes adore it! So much more pretty than all the other social media streams, and it feels more instant and more satisfying than all the others; no pesky links to click on to reach an article, no faff, just simply things to look at! And you get a real sense of a person from seeing what their eyes see, what they choose to share with you. I have my own Instagram, which I use for this blog; showing my home life, days out, cats and all the little things that make my eyes happy, and now, I FINALLY set one up for my online shop Prim! Oooof! Really don’t know what took me so darn long! It’s the perfect place for you to see regular and easy updates on newly added vintage stock, close-up details of special items, and, some plainly gratuitous inspiration in the form of my favorite vintage dress wearers, my famous muses looking brilliant in vintage dresses…. I mean, it’s just gonna be a plethora, a delight of vintage dresses! Please do join me there and I’ll follow you back! Let’s share pretty pictures!

That Couture Is So Darn Haute

Oh my. Sigh. So. Much. Pretty. The Haute Couture shows have just wrapped in Paris and, goodness me, did they DAZZLE!! As a gal who adores and sells dresses, I love couture shows as they are pretty much ALL about dresses! Statement, amazing, spec-bloomin-tacular, dresses! I spent some time swooning through the images of the shows and, not surprisingly, my regular favourites came up as the ones which made my heart beat the fastest, jeeez, these guys really know how to create beauty! Here’s my favourite dresses from my three top designers…

Giambattista Valli

Those who read my blog regularly will be familiar with the fact that this man’s stuff makes my knees wobble. I mean, seriously. He designs this perfect blend of cuteness and femininity and adds a big ole’ spoonful of quirkiness. I adore that it looks almost like he starts with a really classic structure and then throws a load of unexpectedness at it to give it a harder edge, he overloads and exaggerates ideas. And, the frothy gowns in the last two images…. TOTES my dream wedding dresses!ABCDE

Zuhair Murad

I reeeeally like this guys stuff. I first fell in love with his designs after seeing them on Kristen Stewart, they had just the right dose of femininity mixed with sass for her. I adore the delicacy and the colours here, stunning structures too. I do like a dress that makes you gasp in awe, and he always manages that. I really like the styling of the hard metal belts with the softness of the dresses too.

FGHIJ

Ralph and Russo

Ok, so these two talented people have had my heart for a while, but this season they REALLY floored me. This, is fashion perfection. The first British design house to be asked to show in Paris Haute Couture shows for over a century, it’s obvious their skills are pretty special. The set, the theme of an Ethereal Garden, the pastel paradise; everything was as good as it gets. They had a brilliant arrangement of textures and fabrics, and the details and silhouettes; I can hardly bear the brilliance. This dreamy pastel, sequin and feather fantasia had echoes of the styling in the TV show Scream Queens, so we just know that this look is gonna be ALL over the high streets. I have barely ever seen a collection as beautiful as this. Literally stunning.KLMNO

How To Find Your New Personal Style

collagemossSo, I LOVE fashion as you are well aware. I adore trying out new styles, replicating fashions I see on the silver screen and on famous faces. I think finding a new style can often act as a confidence booster. If you can find a way to change your look for the better, you’ll smile when you catch your reflection in a shop window and that, is a great feeling. Knowing that you’re confident in how you look and the way you dress is a feeling we all wanna piece of. It’s not an exaggeration to say that the type of impact this could have can change your life and the way you go through each day. Suddenly, you’ll find you have the self-esteem to approach new possibilities with an open mind and a sense of self. It’s a new year, it’s a little dull and quiet in January and so it’s an ace time to try something new before Spring arrives! Here’s some ways you can find a new style and look at a more brilliant tomorrow, yay!

Go Shopping! – I know, I’m encouraging you to shop, ooops, but honestly, one of the easiest ways to find a new style is to hit the stores. There, you can try on lots of different outfits and see what type suits you best and which ones you’d be comfortable wearing. You could even think about hiring a personal shopper if you need a hand, or take along a super stylish friend for help as your Stylist for the day. Personal shoppers aren’t just for celebs these days y’know, and for an odd day trip they are quite price convenient. Of course, you have to make sure that you choose one with a certain skill and eye for trends, one that gets where you wanna go with your look!

Take Note From The Celebs – There are certain websites where you can find the style of different celebrities. Take the post I wrote about the girls in Scream Queens as an example. Although, unless you’re in your teens and have a lot of money to throw around I wouldn’t try to get their fashion style exactly! It’s important to think about the celebrity that you want to match the style of, no prizes for guessing who my most favourite style icon is! They really need to be your height, and you can check that out on http://heightline.com/ a fun website I found! A gorgeous dress that looks stunning on someone who’s five foot eight won’t look as glamorous on a lady who is just over five feet, you just have to play around with ideas and find what works for you. Of course, you can trick perception by choosing shoes with very high heels. It just depends on how comfortable you are walking around with these types of shoes on!

Try New Accessories – Alternately, you may want to try some new accessories and see what impact they have on your style. You know as well as I do that the right clutch or necklace can really make an outfit POP! You just have to try different types of accessories until you find the effect that you’re searching for, it’s a whole heap of fun to play!

Get A New Do – A new hairstyle can completely alter the way you look and is a great go-to when you fancy a new look. The right style could perfectly frame your face and even hide features you’re conscious of, a great new do can make you feel so good and can be a great face refresher! If you’re approaching forty you might find that your hair is looking a little thinner. But the right style can hide this fact completely, particularly if you also use bamboo oil products, just spend some time online finding tips. Do this, and you’ll be looking and feeling like your most beautiful self ever, whooopeee!

Try some of these ideas to give your look a new boost, a little mix-up and a little extra ooomph, you’ll be gettin’ ALL the looks for being the lovliest lady of them all, and surely that’s something we all get a little buzz from!

Scream Queen Dream

sc00

So, Scream Queens on E4, isn’t really aimed at me, surely I’m out way of their target age range, but, have you SEEN it? Oooof! I watched the first episode thinking it would just be a cute bit of easy breezy telly on a winters night, and, by gosh, waaah, I was hooked, it’s a dream to watch, it’s like candy floss for the eyes; a swanky pastel fash fest! Now, I ain’t seen styling as superb as this since Sex and The city, and that’s sayin’ somethin! It totally blows me away every episode, such saccharine sweet goodness in every look. It’s kitsch, it’s tongue in cheek, it’s hilariously written and it’s so overly styled it’s like watching a preened My Little Pony winning a show jump; SUBLIME. The set too, is impeccable, I gasp when I watch it. I adore trash TV like this, great escapism from my sofa with my kitty on my lap and hearts in my eyeballs. The look of this show is utterly faultless. I have one MAJOR bone to pick with it though, it massively mocks the issues of girls and eating disorders, which is ridiculously irresponsible, seriously NOT GOOD. The characters are seen eating cotton wool balls for lunch and appear sat at a dinner table eating thin air with knives and forks, frequent references are also made to dieting and making yourself sick. It’s more than crazy that they include this in a show which has an enormous young following. I mean, I totally get that this show is satirical, it parodies the genre, the style and the intelligence of shallow college girls, but the eating disorder thing, that’s satire gone crazy. Maybe girls these days respond more to the fear of ridicule than anything else so the writers feel the inclusion of stuff like this is a good way to educate girls on eating and body issues, I can’t figure it out. But the rest of the show is just SO damn good I can only hope they have a good intention behind their reason to mock eating issues. I’m stumped. But, still, pretty show, very, very pretty.
